archive for August 2009

ok, it’s that time again. the euphoria that is friday evening. we got there in the end. first off go to the new crookers blog and play the micromix vol. 2 found on the left hand side. oh, and crank the bass. standard. then start to read on. do not pass go and don’t collect 200 until you do so. promise?
okay, so we can get started. had to set the scene you see. so crookers always seem to kill It and this minimicromegamix features tracks from the likes of Fake Blood, Bingo Players, Riva Starr, Jack Beat, Nic Sarno, Congorock, L-Vis 1990 and Jesse Rose. not to mention the shout outs from the mac and the almighty godfather outro! so nothing has changed there then :) plus not only that but we thought wed also throw in the latest remix offering of fever ray (of the knife fame) in the video up top.
so crank it up and let the weekend begin!

like hannibal (as in the a-team guy, not the eaty-brains-guy), we love it when a plan comes together. and this is a pretty awesome plan if we do say so ourselves. foreign beggars have teamed up with the almighty legends of turntablism the scratch perverts for a new project called neurosonics audiomedical produced by chris cairns (who is so hot right now) i don’t want to spill too many beans as the video and the site talks for itself, in fact, all i can probably say is aaaaaaaammmmmmmaaaaaaazzzzzzziiiiinnnnnnnnnnggggg! or something along the same lines.

song graphs
now ive known about this for a while but seriously, today i discovered or shall i say unearthed an entire pool on flickr with loads of these geeky graphs that people have made. if you havent come across these before then, well, this is what were here for. definitely good fodder for sending round the office, you know, when everyone needs a good geeky laugh. did you ever think a flow chart would make you smile?

power-c[hart]
yes i know, its wednesday all over again. its a weird one wednesday, its like saying is the bottle half empty or half full. well for us, its always full and in some willy wonkaesque manner we never run out of juice. so, no matter what your stars are saying weve developed a quick fire mid-week chart to make you perkier than that puppet pig twin thing (aka perky pig). lets get down to business:

  1. david guetta ft. akon sexy chick (abel ramos atlanta remix)
  2. just jack the day i died
  3. lady gaga love game (chew fu remix ft. marilyn manson)
  4. arctic monkeys crying lightning
  5. calvin harris im not alone (royal ks alone in the dark bootleg)

check back next wednesday for more remixchartery action!

star wars chopsticks

ok, so we were all taught not to play with our food and all that. But well we just cant resist these handy lightsaber chopsticks. Theyre darn right ingenius! whats the most amazing and creative thing like this youve seen? and can someone please tell me how the darth maul chopsticks are supposed to work???

libertines reform
some breaking news just broke all over my computer and im currently wiping the last bits of a story from my screen. so i just read on nu rave brain wave that the news is out! the libertines are actually going to reform a little bit, i think its probably because you lot kept blogging about it. personally, im looking at it as a great thing. maybe a beautiful thing? either way its some of the most uplifting news in the past couple of days! but what do you think? ok, now im so hyped….. who wants to form an equestrian dubstep jazz outfit with me?!?!?!?

ever wanted to skateboard down a really high mountain but cant muster up the energy? my answer to that would be a no, but id sure as heck like to watch someone else have a go. cue olliewood, a short skate film contest, 15 teams of skaters have 40 hours to film, edit and submit their 2 minute masterpiece! this weekend bristols amphitheatre will be filled with ramps, music, sweaty skaters, movie makers (somehow i dont think well be seeing any mountains) and turned into the ultimate skate plaza. on sunday pop your skates on (oh dear) and get to the cube cinema to celebrate the winning movie.
wah, wah, wahmy wardrobe is overflowing with stuff i never wear fear not clothing hoarder, shove it all in a bin bag and get yourself to the wah nail studio. this sunday the girls are throwing yet another party, this time its a swap shop! come home with a whole new wardrobe happy in the knowledge that your garms have gone to a loving home. oh and forget the roast dinner for the day, as well as swapping there will be wheat-free cupcakes for all, deeeelish!
i love goodie bags, i love good soundsystems, i love good music and i love london, where could i go to get such delights? i guess i could go to the doinit launch next weds at tamar gang. dont worry about it being a school night, ive already thought about that and loaded up the goodie bags with the only drink you will ever need to get you through the next day (vitaminwater of course!). one last thing, if you are planning on having a shot or five make sure you pick up the goodie bag with the purple drink ok? those of you who want to thank me for this vital piece of info please come back next week and thank away x

laura marling
yes, yet again i got rained on hard this week at least twice. but at least tuesdays balmy summers evening was a welcome surprise- so; i headed down to the royal festival hall for a few glasses of wine (al fresco). by 8pm the usual middle aged folk dining on the south bank were stunned by the invasion of young, folk-loving, laura marling look-a-likes.
starting rather tentatively, marling was definitely comforted by the dozens of musicians / friends, that joined her on stage, show casing their own material as well as supporting some of her new tracks.
at one point, i counted about 14 musicians walking on stage in single file- bit like a school assembly! stand out musicians for me, included marcus mumford and pete roe.
hackney downs fest
so all i wanted to do on thursday was go for a nice meal with some buddies. but as the down turn bites- and actually having money to dine anywhere other than pizza express on a 2-for-1 deal seems out of the question we decided to have a late night picnic on hackney downs.
this by the way, was the best idea ever- five of us made (bought!) inexpensive yummies including, home made chapatti and rice, humus, dips, olives, spring rolls, salad, vitaminwater, red and white wine, falafel and potatoes , an apple and cinnamon pie, the obligatory picnic sheet and pillows, and lounged in the moonlight . its cheap. its fun. i recommend it.
welcome to the hackney hacienda
saturday marked the return of the humble house party- egged on by glorious weather. all and sundry seemed to be opening their doors for a hackney hoe down my favourite current pastime is turning up to these things unannounced (and unknown. strangers house parties are always much more fun)
look our for me on your living room couch any day now
the soundtrack to my week
marina and the diamondsi am not a robot
mystery jets ft. lauring marling – young love
en vogue – dont let go
 bobby brown – roni
 aaliyah – rock the boat
sam cooke – bring it on home to me
 diana ross – love hangover
kitty daisy and lewis – buggin blues
kp and envyi – shorty swing my way
 donna summer- state of independence
jazzy jeff and the fresh prince – summertime
trend alert
wedges and clogs with socks- im totally serious! say bye bye to stiletto heels- they provide no support and are just plain dangerous! plus socks prevent that icky summer slide you get when feet get sweaty.
pork pie hats- im addicted- purely because my hair is always a mess
lace lace lace- i love lace

i know i know, you didnt mean to have that extra shot (make that several) on saturday night and then do it all again on sunday. we both know its not really your fault. but thats not going to solve your dire situation, nor your pounding brain bags. no, what you need is a kick to the cranium right between the eyes with enough welly to bring you to your quaking feet and scream not this time hangover, its time to meet your maker!!!!
so how do you transcend to become this altered beast that which i speak of?! well, the answer is simple. grab the nearest music box to your person and jack it up as loud as it will dare to go and gyrate all the way to the bank with this little banger by mystery producer maybb. touring in new york is boring apparently, which is bound to make you feel better as you seek out the nearest coffee saloon before battling the day to its death.
