“grey, cold, dull and always raining”, that is usually the description my friends outside the UK use to describe this glorious country. and as much as i try to defend this somewhat typical weather, i have to admit that these gloomy and rainy days doesn’t help to defeat the so called “january blues”. at first i thought i was alone, but as it turns out, plenty of people are suffering from it. so i decided to try to do my little part for society and deliver you a wednesday power-chart filled with uplifting songs. i am sure nobody missed duffy‘s enormous hit “mercy”, but i can bet my little pennies many of you never heard the cover above with the third degree. now if that doesn’t make you feel uplifted and bopping in your seats, feel free to have a listen to any of the songs below for that extra dose of sunshine:
- the bamboos – on the sly feat. kylie auldist
- mr scruff – get a move on
- laura vane & the vipertones – steam
- breakestra – getcho soul together
- the jackson sisters – i believe in miracles

STREETLIGHT collectif presents from Louligan on Vimeo.
light painting has been around for quite some time by now, but recently our eye was drawn to a group of french artists practising “light graffiti”. it’s an interesting concept, and this group have produced a great video to showcase some of their work.
this is of course means that the “graffiti” only lasts a couple of seconds, but the images and video’s that can be made are incredible to see and totally unique.
a while back we also spotted some really awesome artists that were painting using video. Huh? I know, but it’s exactly how it sounds. have a peek if you don’t believe me ![]()
if watching these videos has you wishing you could do the same, there is always time to learn (although not with the video painting, that’s to advanced for us ordinary folk). head over here to watch an instructional video on the art of light painting. and remember, if you decide to dabble, send us some photo’s to drool over!

not many days now until one of my favourite male vocalists and jazz artists, jos james, drops his second album “blackmagic” on brownswood recordings. my excitement levels are rising above and beyond the earth’s surface, and i can’t wait to hold this little bad boy of an lp in my hands. i first discovered jos back in 2008 when he released his first album “the dreamer“, an album that completely blew me away both musically and vocally. there is something truly magical about jos’s voice, it somehow has the ability to capture you as a listener and take you on this almost spiritual journey through space and time, melodies and rhythms… after having heard a couple of preview tracks, i can assure you that this is a bit different from your normal jazz record and a definitely a release you should check out!

Commentariolus [Unplugged] by Nicholas Kopernicus from Charles le Brigand on Vimeo.
i know the sun hasn’t been shining a lot lately, but for today’s post, i would recommend you to wear a pair of sunglasses as the sparks flying off this friday’s act might hurt your eyes. nicholas kopernicus is an instrumental duo from brooklyn, new york, consisting of pianist/songwriter/producer jason minnis and guitarist/songwriter seon gomez. their first album “audiocentric” was released last year and definitely one of the more special albums of 2009. it is a beautifully crafted lp that has a perfect mix of hip hop, soul, afrobeat, blues, funk, reggae and folk music. after it’s release, the duo was by chance put in contact with photographer charles le brigand, and somewhere along the line, they decided to collaborate on a musical and visual project together. this project lead to the release of the audiocentric unplugged ep, as well as an extra ordinary photo and video essay by charles le brigand. you can learn more about their creative journey here and make sure you download the free ep and check out the truly inspiring videos here. happy friday!

fashion’s hottest asset at the moment has got herself engaged! if you have been hiding under a rock for the last few months you won’t have heard about gap toothed supermodel lara stone, the new face of louis vuitton.
she is set to marry little britain star david walliams, hmm we wonder what he will wear to the wedding!
Congratulations from all of us at dailyvitamins.com
i love giving credit where credit is due, and i have to admit that since it’s launch in 2009, mixcloud has quickly become one of my favourite places to hang out on the world wide web. it is a nice and cosy little place where i can spend hours listening and discovering new music and mixes. they had a competition where they kindly asked their community of cloudcasters to vote for their favourites, and as the results were revealed this week, i was pleasantly surprised to see so many peeps that i know or follow on the list.?? so if you by any chance have a massive music craving today and you need to settle those roaring urges, these would be my personal recommendations out of the 50:
1. laid back radio – an amazing mixture of “all school” flavoured music as well as proper radio shows
2. karriem diggins – german dj who has wonderful mixes including turkish funky and original beats music
3. heavysoulbrutha – the name says it all
he is one soulful brutha alright and so are his mixes
4. tokyo dawn records – always serving refreshing mixes with futuristic, jazz, soul, electro, hip-hop and boogie music
5. ondasonora - if you need a reason to dance, this collective of friends, dj’s and events organisers will supply you with plenty of music that will get those feet moving
oh and because i am nice, I added one of my all time favourites to the top of this post to get you started. it was made by laid back collaborator rhil and includes some funky/groovy sounds from poland, czechoslovakia, hungary and yugoslavia made?? in the 70???s.
