archive for April 2010

hello hello my friends, hope you are feeling good today especially since we have a long weekend ahead of us (yaaay!) i still haven’t recovered from my nasty little cold (please feel sorry for me, i know i do). however, i did get a nice little message from the breakin bread crew, a funk & hip hop collective based in south london, on my mixcloud profile and that put the biggest smile on my face as I was snuggled up in bed with tea and medicine, and feeling rather miserable.

you see, not only do breakin bread run a great record label with a roster of artists such as the killer meters, natural self and color climax, but they also do club nights (check out the next one at the social 7th may!), radio shows, podcasts, you name it. they truly represent all elements of hip hop, as well as quality funk and soul music. to have a little taste and to put you in a fantastic mood for the 3 days you will be off, enjoy this great radio show from april. happy friday!

ok guys! some of you may be wondering what roflcon is (rolling on the floor laughing conference)…so if you don’t know, let me explain. it’s an annual conference celebrating the best in internet culture, memes and internet celebs. the aim is to figure out what makes some memes work, why they work and also to celebrate some of the best memes around.
take a look at the story of tron guy, from a previous roflcon, who walks around wearing a tron suit…his story is in the video above. this year we will likely see more of the weird and wacky internet celebs and memes, including enough cats to last a lifetime! also included will be the story of three wolf moon, the shirt that launched a meme! you can check out the program here.
there are bound to be loads of laughs during the event, and you can catch it all via live streaming! the vitamin water team will also be there tweeting and taking loads of pics, so you can also follow all the action real time on twitter through @glaceaugirl

Pop Justice

this is a little beauty of a site if you are in love with all things pop! devoted to only the best (and worst) that pop has to offer, popjustice has the latest music, videos, news and opinions

they also do interviews with pop stars like alexandra burke, and feature “best of” lists (everyone loves lists, it’s a fact!).
what we like most about them is their attitude, they ask questions others wish they could, and say things everyone else is thinking. so if you like your reviews honest, and with more than a little bit of attitude, this is the blog for you.
also, they provide some banging free downloads from time to time.
so if you have embraced your love for pop, then embrace this blog. also, follow them on twitter would ya?

so we know glee is not for everyone, but we know that those who love it, really really love it. so when the madonna episode aired this week loads of people were really excited about it.
just to clear things up, the episode didn’t actually feature madonna, rather a selection of some of her biggest hits sung by the cast. if you didn’t get a chance to see the episode, watch the video!
apparently the show was such a success that they are now looking to make more celeb inspired episodes. britney is the next one on the list…but other artists they are considering include led zeppelin, billy joel and courtney love
which celebs do you think deserve an episode? i for one would love to see a spice girls one!

it is the last wednesday of april (man time goes too fast!), and of course, this means another power-c[hart] filled with music goodness. just my luck that when the weather starts getting a bit hotter, i end up with a cold making me bed bound. but instead of moaning i decided to make a playlist filled with songs that would cheer me up (and hopefully you guys too!).

we got a bit of everything in there funk and soul wise, with a sprinkle of disco, just to get those hips moving if there weren’t already. because let’s face it, you can’t go wrong with a bit of chaka khan, james brown, spanky wilson and the quantic soul orchestra, ike and tina turner, topped off with some ben westbeech, koop and the new mastersounds (just to give you and idea).

so if you are lucky enough to be able to go outside and maybe even have a yummy bbq, i am pretty sure this playlist will make you enjoy spring blossoming in full effect a tiny bit better. oh yeah, and peep the video as well, just as a little teaser, plus it is rather cute.

pixie_lott_photo1.jpg

dailyvitamins pal pixie lott is launching a clothing line with lipsy, this is her first collaboration with a fashion brand and we are sure it won’t be her last! hey pixie, how about a dailyvitamins range? colours for all occasions.. we shall wait for your call..

back to the lipsy range, so the collection which goes on sale tomorrow takes inspiration from pixies own style. she has divided the collection in to two looks ‘pixie festival’ and ‘pixie party’.

she also has an autumn/winter range coming out later in the year, we predict ‘pixie pants’ and ‘pixie ear muffs’ will be big!

a few
weeks ago a friend suggested that i sign up to take part in
‘ellie
runs’
.
so i signed up, a link was posted on my facebook page. it was only when another
friend asked me what it was that i looked into it further!

‘ellie runs’ is a run ellie goulding did on
the day of each of her performances in 7 cities on her recent uk tour
(birmingham, liverpool, manchester, leeds, newcastle, glasgow, london). what
made this different from just another pre-gig workout, was that 10 lucky fans were selected to run along
with her
.

you
have probably guessed by now that i was one of the 10 people randomly chosen
for the london run. we did a 5k run around the
south bank in london and as you can see in the above video it was a whole lot of fun!

it was
a really cool and unique way for ellie
to meet with fans
while she is on a busy touring schedule. you can see all
the videos and photos on all of ellie’s sites,
ellieruns.com, facebook page and youtube
channel
.
a tip for all fans of ellie reading this;
follow
ellie on twitter. she checks it regularly and
interacts with fans, she loves twitter and said ‘it keeps me in touch with the
outside world’.

good afternoon friends! after a long weekend in budapest with hardly any sleep, i am now back in the uk and i am going to let you in on a little secret, i am absolutely terrified of flying. i had to be out at the airport 4am this morning, so i didnt even bother going to bed last night, which in hindsight wasn’t the best idea in the world, but at least i didn’t miss my flight. anyway, my point with this is, because i get so nervous when i fly, i usually need something to calm me down and the best cure for me is music. i pretty much fell asleep as soon as i boarded the plane, and when i woke up “honey” by erykah badu was playing. i remembered how i absolutely love the video for the song, so i thought i would share it with you guys. oh yeah, and you should definitely check out the video for her latest single “window seat” as well! i am guessing it took a lot of guts to make it.

hi there dear readers, please meet up and coming american outfit ‘dang we’re on fire’, from orlando flordia. we bumped into their drummer man greg on the twittesphere and he took some time out to answer a few questions. they are busy performing in the us at the mo, but we’re sure they’ll be this side of the pond one day. in the meantime check out their single “emontional ridiculous” (below video) from the album “heart stop beating”. or have a chat with them on twitter, and if you like them, well then.. eh.. ‘like them’!

Dang Were On Fire “Emotional Ridiculous” Music Video from Michael Patti on Vimeo.

1. what’s your
nickname, after all, we’re all friends here?
i get g money a lot from close
friends or randoms. anthony gets called ant, i call nick (my brother) nico
haha, and zovath gets zovie. or the infamous “danng” from first
glance.

2. now we’re bezzie
mates, tell us something exclusively about yourself that most people don’t
know.
i love to surf, although most people wouldn’t
know.. and the beach is my favorite place to be.

3. what question are
you sick of being asked and why?
i’m not really sick of any
questions in particular, i just don’t like being asked too many haha. i guess
“how tall are you”? is one that will never go away, considering i’m
6’5″.

4. in which can you
tell us about a time when an interview has gone badly?
 so far so good!
we love doing interviews.. its something that shouldn’t be taken for granted,
and wouldn’t jeopardize the outcome.

5. most of us like to
not be nude in public, so what’s your favourite brand/designer for covering
yourself in? (and have you ever been nude in public?)
 my favs are zara
and american apparel, but i love finding new designers and clothes that i’ve
never seen before.

6. if you could work
with anyone who would it be and why?
i would love to do a record with greg archilla, and write & record percussion with paul mccartney.

7. we all like to know
our stuff, if you could be a connoisseur/guru/demi-god of something what would
it be?
i’m working every day to be a better drummer, to
reach levels i never thought i could. its my favorite thing to do in the world,
so i would love to reach “dem-god” status drumming haha.

8. i know it’s early
days, but when you do eventually give up the game, what are you going to do in
retirement?
or are you going to be the new rolling stones?
we will play music forever, until we physically can’t anymore. its really a
shared passion, and i can see us doing this as dang, and many other musical
projects.

9. who in your mind is
the hottest talent that we should know about?
the hottest talent.. i’d say is a
band by the name of third eye blind. or megan fox. for different types of
talent of course haha.

10. and finally, what
are your “famous last words”?
live and love life like its your
last day! thanks richard & glace.

the 30th london marathon takes place this today. the marathon is the single biggest one day charity fundraiser in the world, with over 40 million pounds expected to be raised! fairly impressive stuff!
running a marathon is no joke, not even if you a wearing a silly looking costume! those people running in fancy dress really have my respect, it’s hot enough out there rather than wearing a batman or spiderman suit, or like the photos below…
vitaminwater would like to wish all participants the very best of luck!
