archive for April 2010

i have watched this about 6 times now and i cant stop giggling. if you haven’t heard of the gaslamp killer it is about time you catch up on your music homework! this dude is crazy (but in the best way possible). i was lucky enough to catch his set at the brainfeeder event at fabric earlier this year in march, and boy did he set the roof on fire. in the video he sits down with my good friend illum sphere to talk a bit about the hoya:hoya nights in manchester and why they are so special, low end in the states and a bit music as well.
glk is definitely one of the cool cats you need to check out, his style ranges from weird psychedelic world music to heavy dubstep electronic hiphop beats. (try saying that really quick 5 times haha. or don’t. just go and check glk). oh and big up the hoya:hoya boys for sharing this great video!

MJ & cirque du soleil

so it was only a matter of time before two of the most powerful forces in entertainment, michael jackson & cirque du soleil joined up to create a super show combining the best of both!
apparently the people in charge of michael jackson’s estate have given the go ahead for 2 epic cirque du soleil productions! one will travel across the us and focus on the music and dance style, while an exclusive vegas production will focus more on 3-d and other emerging technologies.
having seen both mj and cirque du soleil live, (both of which where incredible) i can only imagine the awesomeness that will be both of them combined!
here’s hoping they bring it to the uk!!!!

it was yesterday morning the very sad news about the passing of one of the most influential and talented emcees/hiphop artists of all times broke on the internet. keith elam, also known as guru (gifted unlimited rhymes universal), passed away after battling cancer for a long time and earlier this year suffering from cardiac arrest and falling into a coma. words truly cannot express how much he will be missed, and i hope his legacy will not only be remembered, but also honoured by future generations of artists. a sad day in hiphop indeed…

we love viral videos. we love that they make us laugh. we love that they are often simple ideas, something clever or people being really silly. we love that people share them all over the web. we love seeing how many youtube hits they get.
brands also love viral videos, and due to their popularity there have been many amazing virals over the years. there have also been some really questionable attempts at viral videos.
when we saw the viral videos for the new iron man film, we simply had to share. the video above is edited from ‘briget jones’s diary’, and there are more from classics such as the titanic and dirty dancing.
just the digital nutrient that brought a smile to our faces today :)

i love it when artists are creative with their videos, it makes the whole experience of listening to a song so much better when it is done in a good way. i need to thank my friend amelia who runs put me on it for sharing this great video from clutchy hopkins. i think i have watched the video at least 10 times (it is sooo good! big up christian borstlap who directed it), plus the song is frickin amazing as well! the song ‘verbal headlock’ has already been named as one of the best songs of 2010 by bbc radio one dj gilles peterson, and the album ‘the storyteller’ that the track is taken from is now out on ubiquity. so what you waiting for!? peep the video, you will want to watch it over and over again, guaranteed!

the sun is out, summer is almost here, and festival fever is just around the corner. of course, vitaminwater is going to be all over festival season, and as part of that we will be bringing you interviews with those who make the festivals happen. so to kick off, we met josh and natalie from winterwell festival, the biggest little festival, which takes place in gloucestershire between the 18th and 21st of june. check out the site for line up and tickets.

Josh and Nat.jpg

1.
what’s your
nickname, after all, we’re all friends here knockers!
2.
now we’re
bezzie mates, tell us something exclusively about yourself that most
people
don’t know nat has a white cat called chairman meow
and josh is a closet pyromaniac
3.
so winterwell
is the ‘the biggest little festival’, do you want to keep it that way, or will
you
take on the big boys and call it ‘the
smallest big festival’? never, for us it’s all about the best
things coming in small packages and one of the motivations for staring it was that be
were bored of the big festivals.
4.
can you tell
us about a time when a performance at winterwell has gone badly? a couple of years back, one of our band’s
drummers got totally trashed, fell asleep outside his tent and nearly died of
hypothermia 6 hours before he was due to play the main stage so that was pretty
disastrous - but he still played!!!
5.
all of us
have done or seen some crazie antics at festivals, what the wildest thing
you’ve

seen at winterwell? we won’t say exactly, but it’s something to do with one of sound guys’s ponytail!

6.
if you could could
have any artist you liked at winterwell with anyone who would it be and why? nat: roxy music, josh: george formby

7.
we all like
to know our stuff, if you could be a connoisseur/guru/demi-god of something what would it be? nat: hula hoping, josh: fireworks

8.
i know it’s
early days, but when you do eventually give up the festival game, what are you
going to do in retirement? or are you going to be the new rolling stones? we will stil be partying in our old age,
probably putting on parties for saga.

9.
who in your
mind is the hottest talent that we should know about?

have you not checked out our line-up…we
have band, wolfgang, animal kingdom…

10.
and finally,
what are your “famous last words”?

to get to know a man you have to walk a
mile in his shoes, then if you don’t like him, you’re a mile away and you’ve got
his shoes!

if you could choose your dream job, what would it be and why? im too indecisive to pick one dream job, after 2 weeks i would want to try my hand at something different, variety is the spice of life. anything creative really!

vitamin water is newish to the uk, what is your favourite place here, where should we go and hang out? depends on the weather, if its sunny spend a day in the west end of glasgow soaking up the sun and atmosphere in ashton lane. if it’s rainy, like it normally is, take a walk round kelvingrove museum or the gallery of modern art followed by a drink in a traditional glasgow pub.

and finally, what are your “famous last words”?
catch-ye -versace!

we all like to know our stuff, if you could be a connoisseur/guru/demi-god of something what would it be? i’d love to know every single word in the english language so i could slip big words into everyday conversations and people would be like ‘wow!’  also means i could play scrabble and win!
with the whole world obsessed with social networks, where do you hang out online – not that we want to stalk you or anything  i love facebook! don’t know why? i love images so like seeing what my friends are up to. it’s also good for stalking the ex’s!!!
vitamin water is newish to the uk, what is your favourite place here, where should we go and hang out? my flat – but let me know your coming as i never have food in!! i’d need to nip out and buy food, though we could always get take away
and finally, what are your “famous last words”? there is only one thing worse than being talked about and that is not being talked about (oscar wilde) ok, so not my words but i like them anyway! mine would probably be ‘live every minuet!!’

Londonist

friday again? so soon? well we aren’t complaining!
so this week in our favourite blogs series, we have a blog all about the magical place that is london. the londonist. as anyone who has lived in london, or travelled there knows, it’s a maze of wonderful things to do and see! this site helps with the journey.
they review events, locations, restaurants and everything in between. they also post images, tips and interviews
a must read if you live in the capital, or plan on making a trip sometime in the near feature.
one post we particularly liked, was their recent coverage of the london tweed run 2010, a charity event held recently in london.
you can catch them on twitter here.
have a good weekend guys!

jay-z said it the best “i love girls girls girls girls, girls i do adore”. it’s very true, i do love girls, music girls. girls who got some attitude, who make noise for themselves, who stand their ground and deliver quality tunes, whether it is through producing music, djing, singing, you name it. i have always been shouting loud and clear that the underground music scene needs more girls, and so it comes rather naturally for me to highlight those girls that i think are doing a great job. and let me tell you, andrea3000 is one of those girls.
hailing from belgrade in serbia, she is a fierce girl with an exceptional taste in music, especially when it comes to tunes with a heavy bassline. she has her own radio show on space invader radio called tunage that you can catch thursday’s between 10-12pm. and if that wasn’t cool enough, she also works for the great indie record label svetlana industries that is the home of artists such as filtercutter (see video above), 8bitch, 1000names, teebs and jackhigh (to name a few). let’s face it, she is a cool cat with sparks flying everywhere, so do yourself a favor and make sure to check out her radio show for some bass & grimey goodness!
