archive for August 2010

two of the big festival greats, leeds and reading festival, passed again this weekend for another year – and today we present to you one of the awesome bands that graced the limelight. hailing from manchester, everything everything are four lads pitted to be one of the biggest acts of 2010. they’ve been doing the festival rounds, including the great escape in brighton, notorious for picking the cream of the indie crop. make sure you have ample dancing space for their track ‘schoolin’ above. enjoy!

mr_power_c.jpg
it’s now the time for the fifth member of the vit-pack to make an entrance, sports fanatic mr power-c!

he lives, eats and breathes football and basketball! after a stint at university studying sports, mr power-c makes sure he doesn’t waste a moment, and can be found maintaining his form at the gym, modelling at the abercrombie & fitch store on saville row or playing football in south east london with his buddies.

as the face of power-c, he certainly lives up to his name, and seizes every opportunity to maximise his game…

it’s that great time of the year again where we actually look forward to the saturday night in. yes, the great british institution – the x-factor, kicked off again this week in style. in true x-factor style, we were treated to a monster of a show with more than it’s fair share of “interesting” acts.

our pick of the bunch has to be shirlena johnson, who faced the judges with a somewhat eclectic rendition of duffy’s mercy, which at first caught us a bit off guard – although now we can’t get enough! not sure how many of you would agree though, even if we’ve placed our bets on her becoming this year’s jedward! we’ve included shirlena’s audition above for your viewing and listening pleasure, you can thank us later…

do you still have the post weekend blues? well after the battering we’ve all just taken from the weather, it’s not surprising. don’t fret though, we’re bringing you a cracking spirit lifter that answers to the name of alex metric. not quite ringing any bells? he’s a dj musician producer extraordinaire who’s responsible for placing his pop tinged electronic stamp on tracks from the likes of reverend & the makers, la roux, phoenix, and gorillaz; as well as dabbling in his own original material with the ‘deadly on a mission ep’. he’s been a great antidote to our dampened mood, and we’re sure he’ll have the same effect on you! make sure you also keep up with his musical happenings on his twitter.

so now for the exciting stuff! if you fancy throwing a few shapes courtesy of mr metric, he’ll be playing at this weekend’s creamfields festival. but it’s sold out we hear you cry! well dry your eyes, because we’ve secretly stashed a couple of tickets up our sleeve and now they’re yours for the taking.

how to get involved:

the competition is open to all our twitter followers, (you can follow us here). to enter the competition for festival tickets to creamfields all you have to do is tweet this:

i want some sold out tickets to #creamfields courtesy of @vitaminwater_uk! for your chance go to http://gvwurl.com/creamfields

before we go, don’t forget to check out the t&c’s and that said, we wish you good luck!

ps. the competition is short and sweet and ends tomorrow, so get in quick!

ladies and gents, the wait is over. it’s that time again where we give some love to one of the cracking blogs under our trusty radar. this week it’s hi fashion‘s turn, written by native londoner sherin about her love for fashion and music!

hate the hefty price tag of high end fashion? well sherin might just be your fashion saviour. we were blown over by her impressive knack for picking the cream of affordable fashion, and she effortlessly proves that anyone can have great style at any budget.

you should definitely check out project take10, where sherin and 9 other bloggers take up the challenge of styling an item based around their personal tastes, and lace dress and crazy heels, because we think she looks fantastic!

if you’re on twitter, make sure you follow her too!

have a great weekend everyone!

carly_miss_xxx.jpglast week, we brought you a rocker, now we’re bring you a mover! yes, up next to grace the limelight, we have miss xxx.

putting the mad in madchester, she is an all singing all dancing, well – dancer. her favourite music includes stone roses and oasis, and when she is not hitting sankey’s up in manchester, she is out in ibiza, considering herself somewhat of a baleric veteran.

if she looks a bit familiar, it may be because she can be found in music videos from mika, ian brown and goldfrapp, playing everything from an abstract leopard to a vampire seductress. her latest starring role is as the face of the naughty but very nice xxx – triple berry. watch out for her all over some of the uks most iconic billboard sites, tube stations and pretty much everywhere else.

afternoon my lovely friends! hope you are all good and that today is treating you well. middle of the week can sometimes be a bit more stressful than mondays i find, and if you feel the same way, you will be pleased to know that i have the best cure to take you through the day :) oh yes, me and mr black classical are back with the second part of our hiphop series. and if that doesn’t make you excited, then you might be pleased to know that i have dug out a delicious hiphop mix from no other than chris read from music of substance as well. why? because i like spoiling you, that’s why haha. i was listening through the mix yesterday afternoon and i can guarantee you that it is an absolute KILLER.

once you are done with the mix, make sure you tune in to kid, you betta know your history pt.2! oh, and I added the tracks from pt 1 to the list, just in case you might have missed out on the post the other week. happy listening!

Elizadoolitlle2.jpgsince i last spoke to you, i’ve been keeping busy with some festivals. i actually was lucky enough to play at 4 festivals in one weekend: tramlines, secret garden party, key 103 and radio aire. i absolutely loved them all but secret garden party was especially beautiful, and for me even more so as i got to sing with gorillaz sound system! they remixed my song pack up and we did some crazy video beforehand and everything! you have to see it! i actually wore pink tights for it, just to go with my pink i-focus vitaminwater water, hee hee!

at the secret garden me and charleston did the black cab sessions too! rolling around the festival singing in the back! lots of fun! and i must say charleston looked pretty damn cool in his ray-bans!

i had a very interesting time with alan carr busking on the streets of london and he interviewed me for more magazine! he is a very funny and loverly gent!

over the last few weekends i’ve done some more festivals – one all the way in sunny glasgow and the other all the way in sunny cornwall! i had a great time on the bus with my beautiful stinky boys, especially jameson’s muso antics! we spent a lot of time in the van. i think van is my 2nd home now.

as i’m typing this, i’m sitting at cologne airport in germany. i just got in from berlin. and then off to amsterdam tomorrow as well! am really enjoying seeing different parts of europe and am keeping my fingers crossed that people will like my music out here and everywhere! wish me luck!!!…look out for my final vitaminwater blog post coming soon…!

brrrrrrr!! where did this coldness come from? it has only been a couple of days, but already summer feels like a distant memory with this chilly and grey weather we have here in london. not that i mind autumn, since for me personally, autumn is the season of jazz. because to be honest, it is on those cold, dark and rainy nights i enjoy jazz music the most. and speaking of jazz, i read the very sad news this weekend that the legendary jazz vocalist and songwriter abbey lincoln died at the age of 80. she has been a great influence and inspiration to many of us, so make today an abbey lincoln day and tune in to one of my favourite albums ‘abbey is blue‘ on spotify.

cougarmicrobes

the weekend is almost here, so it’s time again for your weekly dosage of blog love to tide you over for the next few days. this week we’ve been checking out cougar microbes, a music blog written by boaz who hails from the alternative heartland of london, camden town.

the concept is simple really – boaz rifles through all the mindless fodder in the music world, soldiering through to eventually emerge triumphant on the other side, presenting his delectable selection of the finest releases from a top-notch line up of past and present artists.

he’s been giving our speakers a great deal of love these past couple of weeks, with posts about the brilliant tokyo police club, and fresh talent from the likes of the brute chorus and the ghost. we are truly grateful.

so ensure you’ve cleared a little bit of dancing room, turned the dial on your speakers to the right, and left ample time to let boaz entertain your ears.

if you’re on twitter, show him a bit of love back here!

have a great weekend!
