read on as our resident style expert marian places a new trend under her fashion spotlight in this week’s trend vs tragedy!

i spy with my little eye? a sea of sheer on the catwalk.

it has been plying us with sweets for a while but according to the recent fashion weeks, will be everywhere come spring summer 2010.

i love this trend, really i do (i have three pairs of well worn sheer harem pants that testify to this!) but is it tragedy or what?!

be rest assured that everyone will point out that your sheer garment is see through! (like you didn’t know! duh!)

finally, what is a girl to do when you are in a slinky sheer number and have one of those fat days, (you know the type!) that creeps up on you, half way through the day?

this weekend get your karma fix! everyone loves that warm fuzzy feeling from a good deed, but it’s not often you get to support a great cause whilst having one of dance music’s heavyweights at your disposal for your partying pleasure!

party philanthropists cool to be kind have once again got a cracker in store for the oxjam flagship event at the coronet in london this friday october 1st, and have roped in mighty faithless to grace the speakerwaves with some of their most iconic hits! promising to be a far-from-quaint affair, a night of music, fashion, and charity is in the works with other acts such as zero 7, urchins, and herve all doing their part to support oxfam. there’s even going to be a pop up dress up shop curated by vice magazine complete with it’s own dancefloor and celeb dj booth!

oxjam at the coronet is just one of the great events in the month long music festival in aid of oxfam, organised by hundreds of volunteers who have tirelessly found some of the best local music acts this country has to offer! vitaminwater will be out in force on friday to help hydrate any thirsty do-gooders, so be sure to grab yourself a ticket! be warned though, they’ve been literally flying out the door and the last batch has just been released…

fortunately we’ve managed to get our grubby paws on a pair of tickets and we’re offering them up to you guys for the taking!

this competition is open to all of our twitter followers (make sure you follow us here!), and all you have to do is retweet the following tweet:

RT to win 2 tickets to #oxjam this friday! details here http://gvwurl.com/oxjam comp ends 4:30pm tomorrow! #vitaminjam

the competition is open until 4:30pm tomorrow (thursday), and the winner will be announced on thursday evening! as always, don’t forget to check out the t&c’s! best of luck!

fashion month is more than half way through and here are five trends i have spotted so far:

1. sheeras I observed at london fashion week, it’s here. looks like it is time to bare all darlings. the sheer trend is in full force for spring summer 2011. this should come with a ‘not for wallflowers’ warning!

2. leather – skin is in next spring! go for well cut, light, faux leather

3. brights – at shows like osman, adam entwisle there was punches of bold as brass colour

4. knitsget your knitting needles out as winters sweater dressing is carried into summer 2010. for that season, knits are thin, airy and fine. pair with everything from your favourite little black dress to your day wear

5. josephine baker inspires! – i noticed that bodyamr and prada spring summer 2011 collections both had some josephine baker referencing. with prada featuring some baker inspired prints

after a hectic weekend filled with back to back party hopping, staying up way past bedtime, and throwing perhaps one too many shapes on the dancefloor, there’s no better way to spend a monday afternoon than a relaxing sit down in your comfiest armchair, your favourite novel in tow and a tasty vitaminwater within arms reach.

however, if you’re like us, and there is no rest for the weary – then ‘bluish’ by experimental band animal collective is a great chill-out tune, perfect for reviving any dampened spirits and making the mid-afternoon deskside drag that bit more bearable. be sure to check out their new video complete with psychedelic constellations and dreamy visuals – a striking treat that’ll have you feeling like you’re on another planet!

we know, we’ve been a little caught up in all this fashion week madness – but we also like to keep a beady eye on the big list of things that we’re interested in. a bit like fat kid on fire, a great blog by wil that keeps its ear to the ground for the latest on street fashion, music, and art.

a fellow lover of new fashion, fat kid on fire does its utmost to seek out some of the most talented burgeoning streetwear brands, and always sticks to a strict ethos of focusing on them as a whole rather than individual items. in terms of ear candy, check out wil’s penchant for sourcing and profiling the finest dj’s, such as jayou, and longboy!

why do the leg work, when fat kid on fire can keep you in the know from the comfort of your seat! if you’re on twitter, be sure to follow him too!

happy friday!

pop starlet diana vickers graced the front row of many a show at london fashion week, mingling with the fashion a-list, and taking in the best of the coming seasons’ trends. but always on top of her game, she made sure she never forgot the essential fashion week accessory – a bottle of her favourite vitaminwater! we grabbed 5 minutes out of her hectic schedule to get her thoughts on her faves at fashion week!

what were your highlights, best bits of lfw and why?

julian j smith kindly made me the most beautiful dress to wear for his show, i felt so special and had been excited about the show for so long! i even got a chance to go back stage after the show and take another sneaky look at the collection – a definite highlight for me!

who looked great and who did you meet that you hadn’t met before?

i met krystof stroznya and the designer of the label antipodium, jeffery. i’m a real fan of their stuff  and it was great to meet the face behind the clothes!

what could you not have done with out at lfw

ooh my mulberry bag that i can not be parted from, vitamin water when feeling completely exhausted it is my saviour!

who are you most likely to follow on twitter and why

ooh my favourite bands and celebrity crushes e.g kings of leon, two door cinema club, drums, aaron johnson, oh and derren brown who is really cool!

as fashion week comes to a close, we bid a fond farewell to our fashion insider jodie harsh for another season, but not before she fills us in on the last shows of london fashion week and her faves of the week…

“hi team style, here’s my third and final post for vitaminwater’s lfw blog. it’s taking every remaining bit of energy to type this – i am so exhausticated from all the to-ing, fro-ing, party-ing and show-ing.

last time we left off at a very late night with circus and the notion/on|off party. i was up at the crack to make it to christopher kane’s show, but even still that didn’t prevent any hair drama. once i’d sorted out my tangled barnet from last night’s disco (by stapling a few flowers in the front – never fails to work), i found myself rushing without a second to spare to the old warehouse space he was showing in – to find the first model walking down the runway and the techno beat starting up. i was late! i could hardly rush past anna wintour and seat myself on the front row mid-show so i begrudgingly saddled up to the snappers and took photos from amongst those with long lenses! i loved the acid green pleated dresses – very granny meets tranny!

afterwards i met up with mel blatt and club dj legend princess julia and headed over to the sanderson hotel for our friend saro’s show. if you’ve never been to the sanderson before, i can’t recommend it enough – it’s the best place in town for a cocktail in the sunshine in the courtyard, next to a fish pond. the little place of calm in the middle of the west end is the same place i then witnessed janice dickenson strut down the runway with a right hunk of a man, before slapping his behind and placing his hand on her inner thigh!! i kid you not! very uber.

finally, my very last show of the week came the following afternoon back at the bfc tents. ashish has always been one of my favourite designers – he loves a sequin, that’s for sure. i took my seat next to paloma faith (who is mental and a complete drag queen obsessive and quite wonderful), lady victoria hervey (who just flew in from la and didn’t know who ashish was until i happily explained), pixie lott (who i love), diana vickers, and marina and the diamonds (who chatted to me like we knew each other until we realised we’ve only actually tweeted with each other!). the show was insanity – sequins, americana, androgyny – all my favourite things, in fact. the soundtrack was pumping and the models were strutting. there was such an amazing buzz at this show, and that’s what i really love about london fashion week – the celebs, the creativity, the excitement…roll on february 2011!!

favourite show: ashish for madness, burberry for sjp in the front row, unconditional for wearability

favourite soundtrack
: again, ashish for the pumping electro

favourite models
: unconditional for the topless muscle boys

favourite colours:
christopher kane’s acid brights

favourite party
: mac and giles deacon’s bash on monday at bistrotheque”

check out highlights from day 5 of london fashion week including jaeger london, jonathan saunders and burberry prorsum shows, with comments from pixie lott and rachel stevens!

check out dean piper’s latest post as he gives us the lowdown on all of yesterday’s showbiz gossip at london fashion week…

september 21 will forever be known in my celebrity diary of the day that the entire celebrity world descended upon london fashion week. it was beyond a joke trying to even keep up with the sheer volume of stars that had flown from all over the globe to appear in the front rows.

but there was obviously one star in particular that stood out for me. sarah jessica parker – who, may i add, likes you to call her sarah jessica when you actually meet her. sjp was the star attraction at christopher bailey’s burberry show. in real life you’re stunned by her eyes and she’s far more attractive. she’s also incredibly attentive and loves a bit of eye contact.

sjp looked slick in a leather double breasted jacket and sat alongside donna air, cat deeley, alexa chung and serena williams. strangely everybody’s colour scheme for the day was uber autumnal. greys, browns, autumn greens and black. there were no bright superb colours – apart from andy murray’s girlfriend kim sears who went for a deep blue jacket and killer heels.

sjp had flown in specifically for the burberry bash and to attend lee mcqueen’s memorial on monday evening. she left just as quickly as she came. :-(

the next show to attract a celeb packed crowd was ashish. lady victoria hervey perched alongside diana vickers, paloma faith and jodie harsh on the front row. the four of them were all tweeting each other after the show.

and lady proved she had the stamina of an ox throughout the evening as she hit pretty much ever after show bash that she could get to. she popped to the biba relaunch at home house, the longchamp bash where kate moss was due to swing by and finally settled for the dolce and gabbana bash when i lost track of her! she was looking smoking hot in a sequin dress.

issa was one of the big celebrity adored shows too. the somerset house runway show attracted amber rose, rugby player danny cipriani, cat deeley, poppy delevinge, lily allen, mark ronson’s gf josephine de la baume and model olivia inge. poppy told me she adored the show: “it’s getting better every year as a brand. and you can tell they understand what women want to wear. i was impressed as always.”

the party everyone was clambering to get into was naomi campbell’s dolce and gabbana bash. they’ve been helping the supermodel celebrate 25 years in the fashion industry with a series of parties all over the globe. but this time around it had a little bit more of a low rent crowd. it was all the pop pickers! david gandy stood out alongside olly murs (with a maroon jumper and grey trousers that looked like a school uniform), joe mcelderry, footballer didier drogba, michelle gayle, lola lennox and pixie lott. the only person that seemed to push the fashion limits was paloma faith in a floor length dolce number. it was in fact the same floor length outfit that kelly osbourne wore to elton john’s oscars bash this year..eeek!

the last bash that attracted a good crowd was the mahmoud bakhski launch party at the saatchi gallery in chelsea. mariella frostrup and lisa snowdon were gassing away in a corner (i wonder if clooney came up in conversation!), konnie huq had a rare night off from the x factor and patrick cox was walking in as many were leaving.

london fashion week has once again proved that it can pull in the big guns. and thank god for vitaminwater? with the cold i’ve had all week i’d have never got through it without the re-hydration! until next time, be good.
