chromeo-ohhh-oh…

that’s one riff to wake us up on this sleepy monday afternoon!

ok, we hold our hand’s up. we’re all quite big chromeo buffs, and the funk maestro’s have not failed to impress with the new video for their latest track ‘hot mess’.

as always, the disco tinged goodness and catchy one liners have had us reaching for the flares and hot pants, and we’ve even gone as far as doing the hustle up and down vitaminwater hq (yes, even at this time of the morning)!

so lighten up your monday with some 80′s inspired speaker loving!

alarm clock is screaming against shattering rainfall.

is that the time? did i even sleep?

must be monday again.

just one thing to do before monotonous trudge to work in soggy socks.

whack on wallpaper’s ‘indian summer’ on full blast.

ahh, that’s better.

monday again?! time is flying and today we’re in need of a fast paced bass fix to keep up. thankfully, we’re in good company this afternoon as we have the slick workings of bass aficionado sbtrkt and the effortlessly soulful jessie ware filling our sound space.

their heavyweight track ‘nervous’ mixes a mighty baseline with a funky/garage vibe to create something that is extremely easy on the ears. one to have you reaching for the repeat button, jessie’s soothing vocals seem to be the perfect match for sbtrkt’s skilful beat handling.

‘nervous’ is released today, make sure you download it and support exceptional uk talent!

p.s. if you’re left wanting more, be sure to check out this great live performance of the track at the boiler room!

it’s cold and we’re finding it hard to think over the deafening sound of chattering teeth! so we decided to source some inspiration on our facebook page, and have come across a musical gem courtesy of our mate jim acres!

drum and bass connoisseurs dj fresh and sigma have teamed up on the track ‘lassitude’, which is the perfect accompaniment for working up a sweat to warm up these arctic monday mornings! we’re also loving the parkour inspired video, set within the unusual confines of a sleepy library, that is guaranteed to kick your week off with an almighty spark!

thanks again to jim for the much needed revival boost, and we’d love to hear more enlightenment from you if you fancy yourself as a bit of a music aficionado, so comment away!

in dire need of some speaker lovin’ to see you through the final few hours of the weekend countdown?

well thank the music gods for the mahogany blog, a brilliant cross-genre music blog curated by mark. searching through the murky depths of the music industry, he takes only the best offerings that do their genre justice and places them in the blog spotlight.

the mahogany blog isn’t simply your average music blog either. mark doesn’t stop at a blog feature when a true gem passes under his radar – he makes them prove their worth! the mahogany sessions are a series of intimate performances from an enviable line up of musical talent played especially for the blog, including acts such as let’s buy happiness and ok go. however, the stand out session for us stars everything everything, where they perform a flawless acoustic version of their track schoolin’, previously featured on our blog!

so make sure you check out the mahogany blog, and allow them to set your weekend in good stead!

if you’re on twitter, follow them too!

happy friday!

update – 3 ways to win!!

you might have noticed a slight chill in the air, but did you know a freeze is about to roll into town?

whoa, whoa, slow your role… there’s no need to pack your bags for warmer climes! this isn’t a warning about an imminent ice age, we’re talking about something a thousand times more exciting – the relentless freeze festival 2010!

that’s right, three days of snowboard, ski and music mayhem will once again take over london’s battersea power station on the 29th of october, with festivities promising to top previous years. adrenaline hungry revellers are in for a real treat, as the worlds best skiers and snowboarders take centre stage, around the focal point of a 32m high, 100m long real snow jump.

and what’s an extreme sports event without some massive tunes thrown in for good measure? well freeze doesn’t disappoint, with a mighty line up including the likes of mark ronson, pendulum, and bedouin soundclash!

fancy a chunk of the action? well we’ve got three pairs of tickets (one pair for each of the days) up for grabs! find out how to get hold of em below…

the first way…

this competition is open to all our twitter followers (make sure you follow us here!) and all you have to do is retweet the following tweet:

RT @vitaminwater_uk: fancy getting your freeze on with #vitaminwater? rt to win a pair of tix to @londonfreeze 2010! http://gvwurl.com/vfrz

the second way…

we’ve got our hands on another pair of tickets to this years freeze festival to give away!

earlier this year, snowboard extraordinaire shaun white invented his own trick, the tomahawk, to go on to win gold at the vancouver winter olympics. now it’s your turn to invent a trick of your own! simply tell us what you would call your ski/snowboard trick if you were to invent one and the most inventive answer will win a pair of tickets!

leave us your answer in a comment below along with your twitter name, so we can get in touch with the winner!

third way…

the tickets just keep on comin! we’ve got one final pair up for grabs and getting your hands on them couldn’t be easier.

this competition is also only open to our twitter followers (follow us here!). all you have to do is send us a tweet with a twitpic of you with your favourite vitaminwater, and we’ll select our third winner from those entries!

the competitions are open until 12pm on 22nd october 2010, and the winners will be announced shortly afterwards! as always, don’t forget to read the t&c’s!

love it or hate it, it’s monday again. even though last weekend is all but a distant memory and next weekend’s playtime might as well be an eternity away, there’s no reason to let that get you down.

you see, we think that weekdays have gained a pretty bad rep around here, even though we hear through the grapevine that monday is the new friday! determined to turn the tide, we’re kicking things off with a great track to set your new week in good stead.

a voice that can warm even the dampest of spirits, siobhan wilson’s sultry vocals on her track ‘getting me down’ is certainly having the opposite effect on us. chuck in a disco tinged remix by anoraak and this is the perfect go-to song for those chilly ‘wish-i-was-still-in-bed’ mornings.

we’ve been basking in it this weekend. yes, mother nature has kindly thrown us mere mortals an olive branch in the form of glorious rays!

not wanting to get on her bad side (she’s pretty temperamental – but don’t tell her we think so), we duely accepted and in a hot second, we were rooting around in the depths of our wardrobes for last seasons staples and chilling the vitaminwater on ice.

as a result, we aren’t in much need of a revival today, but we’ve got a great one for those of you who are perhaps feeling a little worse for wear after the weekend’s festivities!

good vibe purveyors mystery jets have just released the new video for ‘show me the light’ – one of the standout tracks on their latest album, ‘serotonin’. as expected they don’t fail to deliver on the feel good front, and the title alone pretty much sums up our feelings on the recent sunny spell!

so even if you are basking in it today from the side of a windowpane, allow the upbeat riffs, polished harmonies, and even the pommel horse themed video, be the perfect accompaniment to the final glimpses of summer.

yesterday morning, the properly committed festival nuts over here at vitaminwater hq were up at the crack of dawn, joining thousands of bleary-eyed bonafide music lovers as they took part in the mass frenzy that occurs every year – the imfamous glastonbury ticket release day.

we think it’s fair to say, it was a far from a rosy experience, but there are few good things that come without a challenge right? so if the loss of an ‘easy-like-sunday-morning’ lie in, the incessant and frustrating page refreshes and phone redials, or even missing out on nabbing the golden tickets (for an unlucky few), has left you feeling sluggish and down this monday afternoon – then you are definitely in need of this pick me up.

hailing from harlem in new york, this cover of interpol’s slow hands by rising hip hop starlet azealia banks couldn’t be a more different and fresh take on the classic indie track. her vocal talent is undeniable as she strips back the track to its rawest form, ending up with a genre defying finished product that emphasises the stunning purity of her voice. so sit back, get comfy, and allow azealia to get rid of those pesky monday blues…

this weekend get your karma fix! everyone loves that warm fuzzy feeling from a good deed, but it’s not often you get to support a great cause whilst having one of dance music’s heavyweights at your disposal for your partying pleasure!

party philanthropists cool to be kind have once again got a cracker in store for the oxjam flagship event at the coronet in london this friday october 1st, and have roped in mighty faithless to grace the speakerwaves with some of their most iconic hits! promising to be a far-from-quaint affair, a night of music, fashion, and charity is in the works with other acts such as zero 7, urchins, and herve all doing their part to support oxfam. there’s even going to be a pop up dress up shop curated by vice magazine complete with it’s own dancefloor and celeb dj booth!

oxjam at the coronet is just one of the great events in the month long music festival in aid of oxfam, organised by hundreds of volunteers who have tirelessly found some of the best local music acts this country has to offer! vitaminwater will be out in force on friday to help hydrate any thirsty do-gooders, so be sure to grab yourself a ticket! be warned though, they’ve been literally flying out the door and the last batch has just been released…

fortunately we’ve managed to get our grubby paws on a pair of tickets and we’re offering them up to you guys for the taking!

this competition is open to all of our twitter followers (make sure you follow us here!), and all you have to do is retweet the following tweet:

RT to win 2 tickets to #oxjam this friday! details here http://gvwurl.com/oxjam comp ends 4:30pm tomorrow! #vitaminjam

the competition is open until 4:30pm tomorrow (thursday), and the winner will be announced on thursday evening! as always, don’t forget to check out the t&c’s! best of luck!
